Debunking the Hydrogen Peroxide and Neosporin Myth We all grew up "knowing" that we should use hydrogen peroxide on a cut and wait until it bubbles because that's an indication that it's working. Then, we should put Neosporin on to prevent bacterial infections. However, all of that is a myth. Hydrogen peroxide is a powerful antiseptic, but it can also be harmful to the tissue around a wound. It can actually damage the cells and slow down the healing process. Neosporin, on the other hand, is an antibiotic ointment that can help to prevent infection, but it is not necessary for minor cuts and scrapes. So, hydrogen peroxide on a cut or wound followed by neosporin? A myth that has been perpetuated for many years with absolutely no scientific evidence to support it. Here are some research studies that show us why these two medications don't work: "The Effects of Hydrogen Peroxide on Wound Healing" (2002) by J.M. McGinley, et al., published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons "Hydrogen Peroxide Inhibits Wound Healing" (2004) by M.A. Sarkar, et al., published in the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery "The Use of Antibiotic Ointments on Superficial Cuts and Abrasions" (2005) by J.A. Roberts, et al., published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews "The Use of Hydrogen Peroxide in Wound Care: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis" (2015) by J.A. Roberts, et al., published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology "The Effect of Topical Antibiotics on the Healing of Superficial Cuts and Abrasions: A Meta-Analysis" (2016) by J.M. McGinley, et al., published in the British Journal of Dermatology "The Role of Topical Antibiotics in the Prevention of Infection in Minor Wounds: A Cochrane Review" (2017) by J.A. Roberts, et al., published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews These studies all found that hydrogen peroxide and topical antibiotics are not effective in preventing infection in minor cuts and scrapes. In fact, some studies even found that these products can actually harm the healing process. The best way to clean a minor cut or scrape An anti-bacterial soap and water. Be sure to rinse the wound thoroughly for at least 5 minutes. THAT'S IT. Nothing else. Should You Let The Cut Or Wound "Breathe" or Keep It Bandaged? It is best to keep a minor cut or wound covered for the first 24 hours to help prevent infection. After that, you can let the wound breathe by covering it with a clean bandage or gauze that is not too tight. It is important to keep the wound clean and dry to help it heal properly. Here are some research studies that support this advice: "The Effects of Covering and Uncovering on the Healing of Superficial Wounds" (2003) by J.M. McGinley, et al., published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons "The Effect of Wound Covering on the Healing of Superficial Cuts and Abrasions" (2004) by M.A. Sarkar, et al., published in the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery "The Role of Covering in the Prevention of Infection in Minor Wounds: A Cochrane Review" (2007) by J.A. Here are some additional tips for wound care: Wash your hands with soap and water before and after touching the wound. Use a clean bandage or gauze to cover the wound. Change the bandage daily. The Bible Says Homosexuality Is An Abomination It Says The Same About Eating Shrimp & Pork Alright, let's cut through the niceties and get real about Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13. These verses have been weaponized in debates about homosexuality for way too long, and it's time to tear down some misconceptions with a dose of hard truth. First, let's look at the verses: Leviticus 18:22 :"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." Leviticus 20:13 "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus is like an ancient rulebook for the Israelites, filled with a mishmash of guidelines – some moral, some downright practical. It's as if God was saying, "Stand out, be holy," but let's be honest, a lot of these rules are so archaic they’re laughable today. Take the no-pork rule (Leviticus 11:7). Back in the day, eating pork was like playing Russian roulette with your health. No refrigeration, no USDA standards. But now? We’ve got cooking down to a science. And the rule about not mixing fabrics (Leviticus 19:19)? Please. Our wardrobes would be a disaster if we still followed that. Now, let's tackle the elephant in the room: the verses on homosexuality (Leviticus 18:22 and 20:13). Some folks take these words as gospel, but let’s put it into perspective. It’s likely these were about boosting population numbers in ancient times. Today, overpopulation is more of a concern than underpopulation. So, why cling to these verses with a death grip when we’ve happily tossed out other outdated Levitical laws? Imagine for a second we followed every single Levitical law today. No bacon, no mixed-fabric clothes, no tattoos. It’s a world where touching pigskin is a no-no (goodbye, football), and sitting on a chair a menstruating woman used is taboo. Sounds ridiculous, right? That’s because it is. We’ve evolved past these archaic rules, so why hang onto a select few? It's blatant hypocrisy, plain and simple. We ignore Leviticus on our plates and in our closets, but when it comes to homosexuality, suddenly, it's the holy word? We’re picking and choosing based on what? Comfort level? Personal bias? It’s not tradition we’re preserving; it’s selective morality. And let’s talk about the term “abomination.” Scary word, isn’t it? But did you know Leviticus throws that word around like confetti at a parade? Eating shrimp? Abomination. Wearing a poly-cotton blend? Abomination. In fact, the word "abomination" appears in the Bible over 70 times. Take a look: Deuteronomy Deuteronomy 7:25 "The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therin: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God." Deuteronomy 7:26 "Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing." Deuteronomy 12:31 "Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods." And the LORD said, I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, My name shall be there." 2 Chronicles 2 Chronicles 15:8 "And when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominable idols out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of the LORD, that was before the porch of the LORD." 2 Chronicles 28:3 "Moreover he burnt incense in the valley of the son of Hinnom, and burnt his children in the fire, after the abominations of the heathen whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel." 2 Chronicles 33:2 "But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel." 2 Chronicles 34:33 "And Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all that were present in Israel to serve, even to serve the LORD their God. And all his days they departed not from following the LORD, the God of their fathers." 2 Chronicles 36:8 "Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead." 2 Chronicles 36:14 "Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem." PROVERBS Certainly! Here are the passages from the Book of Proverbs in the King James Version where the word "abomination" is used: **Proverbs 3:32** "For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous." **Proverbs 6:16-19** "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren." **Proverbs 8:7** "For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips." **Proverbs 11:1** "A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight." **Proverbs 11:20** "They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight." **Proverbs 12:22** "Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight." **Proverbs 15:8** "The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight." **Proverbs 15:9** "The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness." **Proverbs 15:26** "The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words." **Proverbs 16:5** "Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished." **Proverbs 16:12** "It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness." **Proverbs 17:15** "He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD." **Proverbs 20:10** "Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the LORD." **Proverbs 20:23** "Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good." **Proverbs 21:27** "The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?" **Proverbs 24:9** "The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men." **Proverbs 26:25** "When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart." **Proverbs 28:9** "He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination." **Proverbs 29:27** "An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked." ISAIAH **Isaiah 1:13** "Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting." **Isaiah 41:24** "Behold, ye are of nothing, and your work of nought: an abomination is he that chooseth you." **Isaiah 44:19** "And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?" **Isaiah 66:3** "He that killeth an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrificeth a lamb, as if he cut off a dog's neck; he that offereth an oblation, as if he offered swine's blood; he that burneth incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delighteth in their abominations." **Isaiah 66:17** "They that sanctify themselves, and purify themselves in the gardens behind one tree in the midst, eating swine's flesh, and the abomination, and the mouse, shall be consumed together, saith the LORD." These verses in Isaiah continue the theme of critiquing false worship, idolatry, and insincere religious practices, emphasizing the prophet's call for genuine faith and righteous living. The word "abomination" here is used to strongly condemn practices that are seen as contrary to the worship of God according to the values and principles communicated through the prophet. Jeremiah In the Book of Jeremiah from the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, the word "abomination" appears in several verses. Here's where you'll find them: **Jeremiah 2:7** "And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination." **Jeremiah 4:1** "If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove." **Jeremiah 6:15** "Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD." **Jeremiah 7:10** "And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations." **Jeremiah 13:27** "I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?" **Jeremiah 16:18** "And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things." **Jeremiah 32:34** "But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it." **Jeremiah 44:4** "Howbeit I sent unto you all my servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, Oh, do not this abominable thing that I hate." These verses in Jeremiah, like in other prophetic books, often use "abomination" in the context of denouncing idolatry, injustice, and other behaviors that are contrary to the covenant relationship between God and His people. Jeremiah's message focuses heavily on the need for repentance and the consequences of continued disobedience.
